$1m lottery ticket found while looking for a passport
In 2025 a Coburg (Melbourne) man found a $1 million Weekday Windfall ticket in a storage unit while searching for his passport — months after the 27 Dec 2024 draw. Summarised from Canberra Times / Nine / news.com.au reporting of The Lott.
As of 1 Sep 2025 reporting. A Coburg man looking for his passport in a storage unit found old lottery tickets; one was the sole division-one winner of Weekday Windfall draw 4487 (27 Dec 2024), worth $1 million, claimed roughly eight months later (~244 days in some reports).
He told The Lott he scanned the forgotten tickets on a whim: “That’s when the $1 million popped up… I’m just glad I didn’t throw them out.” He had not registered the ticket to a player card, so the lottery could not contact him. He said he hoped to help his mum — and noticed his passport had expired.
The winning entry was bought at Coburg Hub Lotto & The Deli on Sydney Road. Shop manager Prokafh Kundu said staff had been waiting for the mystery winner for months. The Lott’s Khat McIntyre urged players to register tickets so unclaimed prizes can still find their owners.
Note: some outlets say “Wednesday Windfall”; the lottery product named in The Lott-linked coverage is Weekday Windfall. We follow that wording.
Hob’s note
Passports, tickets, certificates — the small flat things vanish into boxes. Keep a “documents first” sleeve at the front of every unit, and never bury what you might need within a year.
